Race & Rally

I started my motorsport journey at 19 years old building my first stage rally car, a Peugeot 205 1.4, and set off to compete in the 205 Challenge. After several years competing reasonably successfully in the Championship, I tuned the car and started entering different single venue rallies across the UK.

I grew addicted to the buzz of the race paddock and started servicing for a team who competed in the Sax Max Challenge and later the Mini Challenge.

In later years, this has expanded to preparing cars and servicing for a team in the Clio Cup and also building, preparing and servicing for several teams that run classic motorcycle sidecars around the UK and the Isle of Man.

At the Southern 100 pre TT race, held on the Isle of Man, both teams that I spannered for in 2022 finished every race without breakdown, both winning their class, and both celebrated on the podium.

Most recently, I have built myself a Citroen C2 stage car, to almost R2 specification, the gallery below shows stages of the build. Now complete and rallying, the first few ventures out have been very promising, achieving fourth in class each time out with no mechanical breakdowns.

If you would like to discuss preparation of a vehicle for motorsport, or spannering for upcoming events, please get in touch by calling the workshop and I'd be delighted to help.

If you'd like to join our current sponsors for our upcoming national events, please get in touch to discuss opportunities.

The C2R2 (almost) Rally Car

Building my C2 from scratch has been a challenging yet rewarding process. Starting with a bare shell, the car was carefully seam welded and adapted to take the Citroen Sport modifications. Then it was given a full coat of paint, and carefully assembled. A full bespoke wiring loom was produced, and a genuine Citroen Sport C2R2 Max engine was disassembled, inspected and reassembled to Citroen Sports specifications. This car has been put together using the best components I could source, this wasn't always Citroen Sports homologated parts, hence the 'almost'.

I treated the first outing as a shakedown proving session, and discovered the clutch cable wasn't strong enough for the race clutch, leading to finishing the rally with minimal clutch. More development into an hydraulic clutch system followed which has since proved 100% reliable. Many thanks to Ed at ECS Engineering for his excellent CNC work on the adaptor plate pictured below.
